This beautiful Grey/Green Irish KILLALOE slate was quarried at Portroe, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, beside Lough Derg.

Some slate experts have said that Killaloes were better than Bangors!

The main shipping jetty was at Killaloe – hence the name. Killaloe slates are in demand secondhand for conservation and restoration projects.

Old slates have been re-used for generations in the Conservation of historic buildings. In recent years demand increased as more buildings are being LISTED.

Reclaimed slates and tiles demand is being driven by Building Legislation, consumer demand and the fact that many churches, courthouses, railway stations and great houses are well over 100 years old and their roofs require upgrading. Planners are ensuring that homeowners protect our built HERITAGE and will no longer accept he easy and the cheap solution of using fibre-cement slates or concrete tiles.

Roofing contractors and customers work closely with us prior to undertaking a re-roof. We can help and advise on the reclaimed materials available including a full transparent cost of supply.  This process will allow us to have product available on time and prevent unnecessary waste of time, ensuring that re-roofs will match the original and comply with planning stipulations.

At Buildstore we endeavour to provide excellent quality reclaimed slates that can be used and will do their job for years to come.

Our Salvage Slate range includes -Blue Bangors – Killaloes – Westmoreland Green and more
